The new president of Worcester's College of the Holy Cross, Rev. Philip L. Boroughs, took office today.
Boroughs was elected by the college's board of trustees last year after Rev. Michael C. McFarland announced his retirement. McFarland had held the office for 12 years.
Boroughs previously served as Georgetown University's vice president for mission and ministry. He is 62, and a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, who grew up in Seattle.
He has a bachelor's degree from Gonzaga University in Washington, a master of divinity from the Jesuit School of Theology in Chicago and a Ph.D in Christian spirituality from the Graduate Theological Union in California.
He also served on the Holy Cross board of trustees from 2008 to 2011.
