Your personal guide to IT training and web development

As a former director of information technology, Heidi Schwarz knows the importance of staying on the cutting edge in computer software and website management. When she founded her company, NetExposure, Inc., eight years ago, Schwarz’ goal was to bring the benefit of her knowledge and experience to the marketplace. Since then, NetExposure has helped dozens of companies improve their presence on the worldwide web through an array of website services, as well as increase their productivity through software training.

"Websites are crucial," Schwarz says. "They can level the playing field between small companies and large ones."

But many company websites suffer from lack of attention. "People think that once the website is up, they’ve done their job," she points out. "But a website shouldn’t be static; it needs to have something new, so that search engines and potential customers will notice it."

New doesn’t mean flashy, though. "The flashy trend in website design has diminished. "Now it’s simplicity," Schwarz observes. "Visitors should be able to understand quickly who you are, what you do and be able to find information easily."

Quality information is key. "Give visitors to your website information they can take away, such as a checklist," she adds. "It doesn’t have to be something major, but you’re likely to have return visits from people who find your website helpful."

NetExposure helps web clients define their vision and website goals. "We can help determine who your main audience will be and insure the design is appropriate for the audience," Schwarz explains. "We treat all clients and their websites as unique. We don’t use templates in our designs."

Understanding your marketing effort on the web is important. The company provides web statistics that will help you understand your visitors and their patterns. Companies want to maximize their return on investment and increase the conversion rate.

Through its training division, Crystal Clear Training, NetExposure offers a variety of training options, including basic, intermediate, advanced and technical training on many software packages. On average, individuals use only 50% of their computer software’s capability, according to Schwarz. NetExposure helps clients evaluate their software needs, enabling users to increase their potential. Training is a benefit that many companies have dropped or limited due to budget cuts. Companies should realize that occasional training is a motivational tool and can substantially increase productivity.

Schwarz and her staff of trainers bring years of practical experience to training. "I don’t train on anything I haven’t experienced and used," notes Schwarz. "If you’re not sure how you would use a software program, I can show you."

One of NetExposure’s clients assigned an employee to training on Excel. The employee wasn’t sure she’d ever use it, but after two classes found that by using the application, she could save an hour of work each day. "The benefit to the company was huge," Schwarz recalls. "I get a kick out of seeing the light bulb go on as people get it. If they’re not getting it, I can explain it a dozen different ways until they do."

NetExposure’s training services include instructor-led classes and workshops, as well as train-the-trainer sessions. Hands-on training is much more effective than lecture style. "Companies are concerned with the bottom line and understanding their business data better. Because of the growing concern, there is a huge push for project management skills and Crystal Reports to manage project costs and analyze the business data" Schwarz says.

Schwarz notes that she measures her company’s success by how it increases the productivity of its clients as a result of training and improvements to their websites. "I have a personal stake in my clients," she says. "I don’t succeed unless they succeed."
