Natick Center Station, one of the stops on the commuter rail line between Boston and Worcester, will stay open during a 30-month, $36 million overhaul.

The MBTA Control Board on Monday awarded the contract for the project to Daniel O'Connell and Sons Inc. T officials said the station will be "rebuilt," with plans for two elevators, three new stairways, two accessible ramps, new platforms, better signage and the installation of emergency lighting. An existing pedestrian bridge will also be replaced.

T officials also plan to raise the inbound track and upgrade infrastructure to address existing flooding problems.

The contract includes five weekend shutdowns in service, which T officials said are currently being scheduled. The MBTA has turned to service shutdowns to expedite maintenance and construction work.

O'Connel and Sons was the low bidder; the next highest bidder was Manafort Brothers Inc. at $39.8 million.
