The University of Massachusetts Medical School has appointed CHARLES PAGNAM as vice chancellor for development. He will lead the joint development function of the medical school and UMass Memorial Health Care, and serve as the chief executive of the UMass Memorial Foundation. He previously served at the Mount Sinai Medical Center as senior vice president for development.
Citizens Financial Group Inc. has appointed STEPHEN WOODS EVP and regional director for Mid-Corporate Banking East, overseeing activities in the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions. Most recently, he was district president of KeyCorp in Maine.

Worcester-based Fallon Community Health Plan has named W. PATRICK HUGHES as senior vice president and chief marketing and sales officer. He will oversee FCHP’s New England marketing and sales strategy. Hughes previously founded and ran a consulting and brokerage firm since 2000. Prior to that he was senior vice president of sales, marketing and product development for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.
Providence-based Citizens Financial Group, Inc. has appointed NORMAN DELUCA of Sudbury as vice chair for Citizens’ Consumer Financial Services Group. In this new position, he will oversee Consumer Finance, CCO Mortgage Corp., CCO Investment Services Corp. and Retail Direct, a division that includes RBS National Bank, RBS Lynk, Citizens ATM, debit card and credit card businesses, and the Kroger Personal Finance joint venture. For the past two years, he was managing partner of NMD Investments, a private investment firm.
Worcester attorney MARK WORTHINGTON has been elected president of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. The non-profit association helps lawyers, bar organizations, and other professionals who specialize in enhancing the lives of elders and people with special needs. Worthington has served NAELA as president-elect and as treasurer, and has been a board member since 2000. He is licensed by the state of Massachusetts, and practices exclusively in the areas of estate planning and elder law.
Northboro-based Pepper’s Fine Foods Catering has added two new staff members. PAUL WILSON is executive chef d’cuisine and DEIRDRE SLAVIN-MITCHELL is a special events designer. Wilson is the former owner of the restaurant Brass Pineapple in Winchendon. He has also served as the head chef at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston and the Worcester Country Club. Slavin Mitchell is the former owner of Slavin in the Kitchen, a catering company she owned and operated for nine years.
PETER LYNCH, president, CEO and chair of the board of Winn-Dixie Stores Inc., and JAMES PAULHUS, executive vice president and senior lending officer at Whitinsville-based UniBank for Savings, are new members of the Nichols College Board of Trustees. Both graduated from Nichols with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree; Lynch in 1974 with a specialization in finance, and Paulhus in 1981 with a specialization in management information systems. Paulhus is on the board of directors for several organizations, including the United Way of Central Massachusetts, Worcester Municipal Research Bureau and the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce. He is also a trustee for the Worcester Art Museum and the treasurer/executive committee member of Choose Worcester, Inc.
Dr. DENISE BELL is director of the newly established Office for Assessment and Research at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. She will oversee a comprehensive, institutional plan to assess student learning outcomes. Formerly, she served in the Education Alliance at Brown University, responsible for the evaluation of school reform models and technical assistance strategies across the nation.
