Retailers around the nation increased hiring in June and had a larger pool of applicants to choose from, according to Kronos Inc.
The Chelmsford-based company’s latest retail labor index showed that there were 40,070 hires in the retail sector in July, which is up from 37,388 in June. That’s the second-strongest hiring month in three years for retailers, Kronos found.
As retail jobs grew, so did the labor pool. There were 1.1 million applications for those jobs, up from 976,000 in June, and up more than 4 percent from last year.
Kronos gets data from more than 14,000 retailers that use the company’s staffing products to compile the information.
