Monday sees nine new coronavirus deaths, 172 new cases in Worcester County

Worcester County had nine new coronavirus deaths reported Monday and 172 new cases according to Massachusetts Department of Public Health data. 

The new cases brought the total to 4,744, an increase in one day of 3%. Statewide the cases rose by 1,524, or 3%, to 56,462.

The nine new deaths added to Worcester County’s total of now 215. Statewide, deaths surpassed 3,000, increasing by 104 to reach 3,003 Monday. 

The Department of Public Health reported 8,787 new coronavirus tests conducted with a total of 244,887.

Within the city of Worcester, there are now a total of 1,806 cases Monday. This is a 3% increase from Sunday with 55 new cases. 

Saint Vincent Hospital and UMass Memorial Health Care in Worcester report 259 total patients, with 98 patients in intensive care. Both hospitals now have 91 coronavirus deaths to date, and another employee has tested positive adding to a total of 155. 

The DCU Center field hospital in Worcester now reports 43 patients, eight of which are healthy and are being discharged. 

Throughout the U.S, there are 980,008 reported cases and over 55,000 deaths, according to John Hopkins University in Maryland. Globally, a new milestone of more than 3 million cases are now reported, with almost 210,000 deaths.
