Miles Press moved its presses out of the Printers Building by crane this week.
The industry giving Worcester's Printers Building its name more than 80 years ago is now completely absent from the 44 Portland St. building.
Miles Press, the last commercial printer left in the building, is moving its operations to a larger space in Auburn. Co-owner Rob Doray said the new space offers 15,000 square feet of space with room for expansion, while the company’s space on Portland Street was contained to just 10,000 square feet.
“We were finding our production to be limited based on our space,” Doray said Thursday.
The company, located on the fifth floor, has begun removing its printing presses the same way they were installed when the company set up shop at the space in 1990 - a crane.
When the company moved there, it was because the location boasted the best printing services around, Doray said.
“Since then, pretty much all printing services have gone by the wayside,” he said.
The future of the building -- and its name - are uncertain. The building is owned by Davis Publications and houses tenants like incubator Technocopia. Davis President Julian Wade could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday.
