MetroWest nonprofits granted $1M+ for education, health, anti-crime programs

Eight nonprofit organizations across MetroWest have received grants totaling more than $1 million as part of the Cummings Foundation annual $25-million grant programs, which donated 140 grants to nonprofits across the eastern part of Massachusetts.

The minimum grant value awarded from the Woburn-based foundation through the program was $100,000, with several in the MetroWest area receiving well more than that. In Framingham, the biggest grant went to RIA House, a recovery center mainly for women who are survivors of sex trafficking in the Greater Boston area. The center received a grant for $250,000.

Natick nonprofits also saw substantial funding from the grants, with two grants awarded to The MetroWest ESL Fund, which supports teaching English as a second language, and the RCS Learning Center, which provides educational services for children on the autism spectrum, respectively. Both institutions received grants worth $250,000.

Nonprofits in Acton received two grants, each totaling $100,000. The grants went to the Discovery Museum, which intends to use the grant to support families separated by incarceration, and to Innovators for Purpose, a nonprofit supporting youth in underrepresented communities to pursue careers in STEM.

Marlborough’s lone grantee was Cancer1Source, which provides co-pay assistance for non-pharmaceutical medical expenses for cancer patients. The nonprofit received $100,000.
