The Massachusetts Digital Game Institute, based at Becker College in Worcester, has hired Monty Sharma as general manager, the institute announced.
Sharma was most recently general manager at Vivox, Inc., a Natick-based integrated voice chat firm that serves the video game industry.
Sharma will seek to strengthen the relationship between higher education and the industry. He will be charged with recruiting talent and taking the lead on its first two projects: a reverse sabbatical for game designers and a production laboratory to connect students and game professionals.
"We are excited to have Monty on the MassDiGI team," said MassDiGI Executive Director Tim Loew. "He will drive key initiatives by adding talent-developers, designers, and producers, students and faculty, entrepreneurs, and industry veterans-into the MassDiGI equation."
MassDiGI launched in April. Earlier this fall, it landed a 5-year, $500,000 federal grant to help grow the video game industry in the Bay State and create jobs.
