Mass. Jobs Up In October

Massachusetts added 10,800 jobs in October, while the unemployment rate held steady at 7.3 percent, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

Among the sectors adding jobs were education and health services, financial activities, construction and professional, scientific and business services. The information and leisure and hospitality industries lost jobs.

The state also revised its job estimate from September to a loss of 5,500 jobs. It had previously reported a decline of 2,300 jobs for that month.

Altogether, over the past year, jobs in the state have grown by 50,000, or 1.6 percent.

Employment in the state, which is estimated using a different methodology from the jobs numbers, grew by 13,900. Unemployment fell by 1,500.
