The Boston healthcare giant Mass General Brigham has filed plans to begin a regulatory review for plans for a new outpatient center to be built on West Park Drive in Westborough.

The outpatient center would be part of a new building at 1400 W. Park Drive, in between an existing office including the law firm Mirick O'Connell and a new 150,000-square-foot research-and-development office for the medical equipment company Olympus.

Mass General Brigham, formerly known as Partners, doesn't yet have a projected opening date in mind.

The Westborough facility is one of three new outpatient centers planned for the outer suburbs of Greater Boston, along with others in Woburn and Salem, N.H. An existing outpatient center in Westwood is also slated to be expanded. Each site will offer outpatient surgery, primary care, behavioral health and specialty care such as orthopedics and neurology.

The regulatory submission was given to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for review.

A Mass General Brigham Outpatient Center in Westborough Masshusetts would be a welcome addition for the residents of Westborough, MA and the surrounding towns. I know firsthand how difficult it is to commute to Boston for specialized medical care and services. Families dealing with ongoing medical needs are more often than not strained financially and the costs incurred with trips to Boston, gas, tolls, parking, wear and tear on vehicle and the cost of lost time due to lengthy commutes all add up. A Westborough MGB outpatient center would simplify the lives of so many. Current MGB patients would have more access and flexibility to their medical care, scheduling of appointments etc... Now with COVID-19 and workplaces now seeing working from home as the new normal, a change here to stay. Many that booked appointments in Boston due to convenience as they worked in Boston, will now look for the new MGB outpatient center for their care locally since they are no longer commuting into their offices full time. I urge the Massachusetts DPH to approve and support MGB in bringing the outpatient center to Westborough which will improve access to medical care and services for all in the area and most importantly improve the quality of care and life for so many individuals from all over the local area
