Mass General Brigham moves forward on expansion into Westborough

The Boston healthcare giant Mass General Brigham has filed plans to begin a regulatory review for plans for a new outpatient center to be built on West Park Drive in Westborough.

The outpatient center would be part of a new building at 1400 W. Park Drive, in between an existing office including the law firm Mirick O'Connell and a new 150,000-square-foot research-and-development office for the medical equipment company Olympus.

Mass General Brigham, formerly known as Partners, doesn't yet have a projected opening date in mind.

The Westborough facility is one of three new outpatient centers planned for the outer suburbs of Greater Boston, along with others in Woburn and Salem, N.H. An existing outpatient center in Westwood is also slated to be expanded. Each site will offer outpatient surgery, primary care, behavioral health and specialty care such as orthopedics and neurology.

The regulatory submission was given to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for review.

People should have better choices with regard to their healthcare; they shouldn't have to settle for the "adequate" options provided by U-mass and Reliant Medical Group. The drive to Boston is very difficult and parking is expensive - the last thing people need when they are not well or want the best options for their family members. The anonymous comment posted on April 14th was obviously written by a Umass employee - I highly doubt patients would consider Mass General Brigham a "behemoth" - patients just want easier access to the best medical care - people from all over the world go to Boston Hospitals when they want the best care, this is a known fact. Let the people decide what they want and need, not the existing providers who want to give "adequate" options instead of the best.

Mass General Brigham expansions are a terrible plan, will increase healthcare costs in the Massachusetts (due to the higher cost care provided by Mass General/Brigham) and severely hurt the physicians and healthcare systems in central Massachusetts. Patients have adequate options in central Mass. and do not require Mass General Brigham's predatory actions. The Attorney General should take notice of this behemoth making moves that are detrimental to healthcare in the Commonwealth.
