The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Massachusetts has fallen 5 cents from last week’s $3.81.

The average sits 5 cents above that of one month ago, and 22 cents above the current national average of $3.54, which is down 12 cents from the week prior, according to a Monday press release from travel association AAA Northeast.

“In addition to lower prices locally, the national average pump price for a gallon of gasoline dropped 12 cents in the past week,” Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast vice president of public and government affairs said in the press release. “The cost of fuel has edged lower on fears of economic slowdowns around the globe.”

The current Massachusetts average is 34 cents higher than one year ago. The national average is 22 cents lower than one month ago, and 15 cents higher than one year ago.
