The North Central Massachusetts Development Corp. granted $10,000 to the City of Fitchburg for the development of pop-up shops for local artisans, crafters, and entrepreneurs.
The City has been working with InTown Fitchburg, local event planners, and coordinators to identify locations for new pop-up businesses in the downtown area, according to a Monday press release from NCMDC, which is the economic development division of the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce.
To start, InTown Fitchburg will partner with Bonfire Bookshop for a retail pop-up market starting Thursday through Dec. 23, along with an extra post-holiday event featuring additional discounts from Jan. 2-6. Located at 37 Boulder Drive, Bonfire Bookshop will sell new and used books and host other local vendors featuring a variety of goods, from winter accessories to soaps and candles.
“A pop-up shop provides a tremendous benefit to the business owner while also helping to develop vibrant downtown areas,” Roy Nascimento, president and CEO of the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce, said in the press release. “This funding will help support the ongoing revitalization efforts of the downtown Fitchburg area by bringing together local small business owners to share their work with the community.”
