Mass. Consumer Confidence Plummets

The Massachusetts Consumer Confidence Index fell 11 points to 56, according to Mass Insight Global Partnerships.

The drop brings the index to a lower point than one year ago, when it stood at 61.

The fall in confidence was driven by both consumers’ assessment of current conditions and their expectations for the future. It is the first time in two and a half years that overall confidence has fallen below 60.

Consumer confidence in Massachusetts is now below the national level for the first time since April 2008.
