Marlborough granted $3M for 180 housing units, downtown upgrades

The City of Marlborough received a $3-million grant from the Gov. Charlie Baker Administration to support 180 new housing units and 5,000 square feet of retail, among other Main Street upgrades, according to a Thursday press release from the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development.

The award was granted to the Marlborough Economic Development Corp. as part of a MassWorks infrastructure grant through the Community One Stop for Growth program, which launched in January.

The funding will go toward three mixed-use development projects totaling tens of millions of dollars in private investment and providing several hundred construction jobs, per the announcement. The three developments are located at 57 Main St., 28 South Bolton St., and 163-157 Main St.

Also included in the project is the conversion of a roughly 500-foot segment of Main Street to a raised, shared-use plaza. There will also be improvements made to the existing park to include a trailhead for the newly extended Assabet River Rail Trail, among other additions.

The award is one of 56 MassWorks infrastructure awards totalling $66.5 million across 50 communities, including Bolton and Sturbridge.
