Lifeward, the Marlborough-based manufacturer of mobility assistive devices formerly known as ReWalk Robotics, has named the executive vice president of a Waltham medical device company to the chairman of its board of directors.

Joseph Turk has served on Lifeward’s board since 2022 and will assume the new role following the upcoming shareholder meeting, according to a Tuesday press release from Lifeward.

The announcement follows the retirement of chair Jeff Dykan, who has led the board for the past 15 years.

“I am so proud of all that we have achieved together, and I am confident that the refreshed and experienced board is in good hands under Joe’s leadership with the overall expertise in commercialization,” Dykan said in the press release.

Turk serves as the executive vice president of global home therapies at Fresenius Medical Care, a German company with U.S. headquarters in Waltham, where he oversees the global home therapies businesses and leads sales and commercials operations, according to his LinkedIn.

Previously, Turk served as president of Fresenius Medical Care North America’s Renal Therapies Group, and prior to that, he was the president of Lawrence-based NxStage Medical, which merged with Fresenius in 2019.

Turk received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Wabash College in Indiana and his MBA in marketing and finance from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in Illinois.

Lifeward was formerly named ReWalk Robotics and rebranded to reflect its growth in January. Founded in 2001, Lifeward manufactures devices aimed to assist and restore movement in people suffering from a variety of neurological issues.

The company announced in November its exoskeleton for neurological injuries will be included in Medicare coverage for 2024.

“Lifeward has benefited greatly from Jeff’s leadership as he guided the Company’s growth from an initial concept into the commercial business it is today,” Turk said in the press release. “Thanks to Jeff’s efforts in establishing this company – and this industry, we are now able to shift our focus toward commercial expansion and market development across both our ReWalk and AlterG product lines.”
