Manufacturing Flat As Economy Softens

Activity in the country's manufacturing sector was flat in August, as prices declined slightly and export orders picked up, according to the Arizona-based Institute for Supply Management.
The ISM's monthly index registered 49.9 percent in August, a slight decrease from an even 50 percent in July and the index's lowest reading since May.
ISM said that while exports continue to grow, domestic activity has been soft for manufacturers.
