After closing its location on Grove Street, Lucky’s Cafe in Worcester appears to have found a new spot to do business.
The breakfast-and-lunch eatery applied for a victualer license from the City of Worcester at 10 Chestnut St., an eight-story building housing Fallon Health’s corporate offices.
Lucky’s, which has been in business for more than 30 years, previously operated in a large mill building known as the Washburn building at 102 ½ Grove St., but in October, it was reported by the Telegram & Gazette the landlord did not want to renew the cafe’s lease.
The Washburn building, including Lucky's former location, is owned by Hamid Mohaghegh, president and CEO of Worcester-based real estate firm Family Grounds. His daughter, Neelu Moheghegh, opened a Fuel America cafe in the Washburn building in February. Fuel America is a franchise with another Worcester location at the base of the Mercantile Center at 100 Front St.
An entity registered to Eugene Mariani, Jr. owns the neighboring Northworks building, according to the Worcester assessors’ data. Mariani is a retired periodontist and sold the site of his former practice on Elm Street in Worcester in February.
Lucky’s Cafe will have its request for a victualer license heard by the Worcester License Commission on Thursday morning. The license request is for operation Monday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this story stated Lucky's former location is owned by Eugene Mariani. The actual owner of Lucky's former unit is Hamid Mohaghegh.
