The September unemployment rates in the Central Massachusetts metropolitan areas surrounding Worcester, Framingham, and Leominster-Gardner all dropped.
Greater Framingham’s unemployment rate was 2.5%, down from August’s 2.8%, according to data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on Tuesday. Greater Worcester’s rate was 3.3%, down by five tenths of a percent from August. The unemployment rate in the Leominster-Gardner area fell the most, from 4.2% to 3.6%.
Out of the 15 metropolitan areas for which the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development published estimates, Leominster-Gardner saw the third highest number of total jobs in the state compared to August, with an increase of 0.8%, while the region’s employment is up 2.4% year-over-year.
In a similar vein, the Framingham area ranked third of the 15 metropolitan areas in terms of total job growth year-over-year, with a 4.1% increase.
The Worcester region lost jobs compared to August, down 0.1%, but has increased 1.7% year-over-year.
