Lightower, NSTAR In Pact

Lightower Fiber Networks, the Boxborough company that has bought three companies in the last six months, has signed an agreement to license fiber-optic networks for Boston-based NSTAR Communications.

The agreement will add 280 route miles of fiber-optic cable and 225 buildings to Lightower's network, which already comprises more than 5,500 miles of cable and 2,100 buildings across the Northeast coast.

As part of the agreement, Lightower will license all remaining fiber-optic network capacity for NSTAR Communications, which is a subsidiary of NSTAR, the Boston-based utility company.

The move increases Lightower's density in and around the Boston and Interstate 128 areas.
