LCU Eyes Worcester Location

Leominster Credit Union wants to open a branch office at 137 Shrewsbury St. in Worcester.

LCU filed a notice of its intentions with the state Division of Banks.

The branch would be located in a vacant building at the corner of Shrewsbury Street and Cross Street across from the intersection of East Central Street.

According to county land records, the property has been owned by the Robbin B. Ahlquist Trust since 2007. Ahlquist and his wife Madeleine own the Worcester Restaurant Group, which operates the nearby restaurants VIA Italian Table and the 111 Chop House, as well as the Sole Proprietor on Highland Street.

The credit union currently has about 105 employees and eight branches. It claims assets of nearly $450 million and annual income of about $3 million.

In other real estate news, the comment period with the state Division of Banks on Marlborough Savings’ plan to relocate its headquarters ends March 17.

The bank announced its plans to move last fall. It is currently located at 164-166 Main St. and plans to move to a new building at 81 Granger Blvd. in Marlborough.

Granger Boulevard is Route 20 through Marlborough. 81 Granger is owned by the Fitzpatrick Family Investment Trust. The bank’s Main Street location is about two blocks away.
