Want a productive workforce? Get some coffee and snacks in the office kitchen.
That's the advice from Staples Advantage, the business-to-business division of Framingham-based Staples Inc. The company recently surveyed office workers and found that 72 percent of them see the office kitchen as a place for quick breaks and casual, work-related conversation, not just coffee.
The survey also found that almost 80 percent of employees think it's important to get away from their desks for small breaks in order to stay focused. Staples suggests making the kitchen more attractive as a place to recharge so workers don't need to head out of the building to a coffee shop, something the survey suggests takes 20 to 40 minutes.
Staples - which, of course, sells pantry supplies - suggests offering several beverage options, healthy snacks, cups and plastic utensils.
