BJ's Sales Up, TJX Steady
March sales for BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. rose 9.1 percent, and comparable club sales rose 5.1 percent, while the numbers for fellow discount retailer TJX Cos. Inc. stayed fairly steady.
BJ's, which is based in Westborough, saw its sales rise to $1.1 billion, from $992.7 million in March 2010.
Framingham-based TJX had a 1 percent increase in total sales, to $2.04 billion. Same-store sales for the company fell 1 percent.
Much of BJ's increase in comparable club sales came from gasoline.
Both companies said the timing of Easter hurt their March sales.
