HYPE'd for Corridor Nine

New program aims to engage young professionals

In an effort to cultivate young business leaders in the region, the Corridor Nine Chamber of Commerce in Westborough has created a new program specifically for its 21 to 40-year-old members.

The HYPE 9 initiative, short for Helping Young Professionals Engage in Corridor Nine, will teach area young professionals how to network with their peers, in addition to pointing out the benefits of membership in, and interaction within, the Corridor Nine Chamber of Commerce, said Dr. Paul Levine, 37, co-owner of Vision Care Specialists and chair of the HYPE 9 Advisory Committee.

"A lot of the more established businesses that have been involved in chambers for a while understand what this kind of networking can do," Levine said. "There's a lot of young businesspeople that don't know about these opportunities or think it's necessary, and we just want to educate this group about what these kinds of things can do for them."

While exact program details have yet to be hammered out by the committee, Levine said he hopes to hold quarterly after hours social events, and to also sponsor periodic brown bag lunches offering educational seminars on such topics as marketing and networking.

"This group will be all about making good contacts, having a good time and learning stuff," Levine said.

The committee will meet September 5 to work out final details of the program. The HYPE 9 advisory committee is composed of young Corridor Nine members from all over the community. It is not necessary to own a company to be eligible for membership in HYPE 9, the chamber said.
