Hudson firm tapped for Mississippi wastewater project

Google Heartland Water Technology, based in this office building in Hudson, will install a system that uses heat to create energy at a Mississippi plant.

Hudson engineering firm Heartland Water Technology announced Tuesday it has been chosen to install a cogeneration system in large Mississippi wastewater treatment plant.

Heartland signed a contract with the Three Rivers Wastewater Management Authority, a solid waste management agency serving seven counties in northeast Mississippi. The firm will install a Heartland Concentrator at a landfill near Pontotoc, Miss. to treat material leaching from the landfill.

Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed Tuesday.

Heartland said its system will use waste heat emitted from turbines and engines, creating a classic cogeneration configuration. The system will capture thermal energy from the authority’s existing landfill gas-to-energy plant.

In the press release, TRSWMA Chairman Carl Cadden said the authority was impressed with the company's technology.

"It is rugged, reliable and simple to use," Cadden said. “Our evaluation clearly suggests that Heartland's solution will result in significant cost advantage as compared to alternative leachate solutions."
