House taking up equal pay legislation

The House is scheduled to take up legislation this week aimed at ensuring pay equity for women, a bill (S 2107) that has already cleared the Senate.
Passed unanimously by the Senate in January, the bill amends law passed more than 70 years ago with by further defining "comparable work," outlawing employers from forbidding employees to discuss their salary with each other, increasing the fine for pay equity violations from $100 to $1,000, and requiring employers to post a notice to employees of their rights under the act.
The bill is scheduled to be discussed Thursday.
