The Hopedale Board of Selectmen has granted telecom giant Verizon a cable franchise in town.
The franchise agreement brings the number of Massachusetts communities where the company’s FiOS TV competes against cable and satellite TV to 109.
Previously, Comcast had the only cable franchise in town.
In Massachusetts, cable franchises are granted by individual communities, so Verizon must seek approval from each city or town where it wants to bring its FiOS fiber-optic-based television service.
