Worcester's College of the Holy Cross has elbowed out Harvard, Boston College and smaller picturesque campuses in the Berkshires to claim Travel + Leisure's "most beautiful" campus in the state.
The Jesuit liberal arts school, with an enrollment of under 3,000, topped the list in a state that the travel magazine said "might have the largest selection of stunning college campuses."
"But the winner right now is Holy Cross, perched on a hill above the city of Worcester," Travel + Leisure said. "The school has received numerous accolades for some of the best landscaping in the country, and both the Fenwick and O’Kane Halls are on the National Register of Historic Places."
The magazine said it considered setting and scenery, design of buildings and upkeep of campus grounds. It also took into account what it could gather from campus visits, first-person references, research and "hours upon hours of examining campuses from images shot at just about every imaginable angle."
