Three of 11 Central Massachusetts hospitals received A ratings for safety in the semiannual reviews by the nonprofit Leapfrog Group, released for the spring.

The Leapfrog Group scores more than 2,600 hospitals on a grade rank of patient safety based on publicly available data on prevention of medical errors, infections and other potential harms on patients. Of 59 hospitals rated across Massachusetts, 24 received As, another 20 got Bs, and 15 got Cs.

How Central Massachusetts hospitals fared:

Harrington Hospital, Southbridge: A. The hospital has received As in four of the last seven ratings.
Marlborough Hospital: A. The second straight A is an improvement from consecutive Cs.
Milford Regional Medical Center: A. The hospital has gotten the same high mark on six of the last seven reports.
HealthAlliance Leominster: B. It's the second straight B score after five straight Cs.
HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital: B. This follows two straight As after the hospital was not previously rated.
Heywood Hospital, Gardner: B. Four of the last seven ratings have been Bs, and the others As.
Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester: B. A good grade, but somewhat of a step down for Saint Vincent, which has otherwise gotten As on five of the last seven reports.
Leonard Morse Hospital, Natick: C. The hospital has ranged from three Cs and three Bs to an A.
MetroWest Medical Center, Framingham: C. The hospital peaked in early 2019 with an A, but that mark is surrounded by two Bs and four Cs.
UMass Memorial Medical Center - Memorial Campus, Worcester: C. Five of the past seven reports have given the hospital a C, along with two Bs.
UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester: C. The worst-reviewed of Central Massachusetts hospitals has gotten a C on all but one of the last seven scores.
