Hail the rail in Meriden

Meriden is banking on rail transport to liven up the city's center. A 15-acre parcel adjacent to the Meriden rail station has been cleared to create a new intermodal transportation center next to the proposed New Haven to Springfield commuter rail line. The downtown site is slated for a town green, an amphitheater and art exhibit space. Harbor Brook will be restored to enhance landscaping.  The city received a $2 million grant from the state Department of Economic and Community Development and $300,000 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency toward the project.
