Framingham's Arch in collaboration with Irish firm

Framingham-based medical device maker Arch Therapeutics has entered into a research collaboration with the CURAM Centre for Research in Medical Devices, based in Ireland, Arch announced Monday.

The company will work with this new research center, based in Galway, Ireland, to improve patient outcomes through the continued development of “smart” medical devices. In a statement, Arch said it will put resources into research in Ireland that will include potential new products and planning of patient trials.

In addition to receiving infrastructure support, CURAM will double Arch’s annual contribution to its own R&D activities, up to about $546,000, made possible by grant funding from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), according to Arch.
“Arch benefits by obtaining access to financial, infrastructural, and expert human resources for our planned work; CÚRAM benefits by being provided access to collaborate on our technology,” Arch CEO Terrence W. Norchi said.

The collaboration will help the company reach its goal of commercializing its product that’s used to control bleeding and fluid loss during surgery, the AC5 Surgical Hemostatic Device, he said.
