Worcester’s Smokestack Urban BBQ is the latest Canal District restaurant to announce closure or sale since late summer, following The Hangover Pub and Broth, PreGamers Sports Bar and Grill, and Buck’s Whiskey & Burger Bar, which was sold.
Smokestack’s owners said it would be closing permanently on Nov. 19 in a Wednesday Facebook post.
Richard Romaine, the owner of Smokestack, and Peter Rano, own the property at 139 Green St. through a separate corporate entity. They purchased the property in 2015 from Covino Realty, LLC for $460,000, according to the Worcester District Registry of Deeds. Michael Covino is CEO of Niche Hospitality Group of Worcester, which runs restaurants like The Fix Burger Bar and Bocado Tapas Wine Bar.
Smokestack opened in 2010 on Harding St. and moved to its current location in 2012.
Romaine also owns Romaine's Kitchen and Bar in Northborough and 'Olo Pizza in Worcester.
The space once occupied by The Hangover Pub at 102 Green St. will be taken over by BlackStone Herbs and Martini Bar.
Buck’s Whiskey & Burger Bar at 62 Green St. was sold and will close on Nov. 20, according to a Facebook post. The new owners plan to reopen in early 2023.
Go Woo Sox.......!!!!!! Another one bites the dust.
