Seeing growth in the number of construction projects in and around Central Massachusetts, Canton-based Timberline Construction Corp. opened its second overall location in June with an office inside the One Mercantile office complex in Downtown Worcester.
Timberline completed work on converting a Worcester warehouse into a 20,000-square-foot lab facility for Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives in Worcester and revamping National Grid’s Worcester office, according to a Monday press release from Timberline.
“Worcester is an economic engine for Massachusetts, and we believe that it only has the potential to continue to grow,” Timberline CEO Steven Kelly said in the press release. “Having a presence in Worcester has always been a part of our expansion plan, and now was the time to make that commitment to capitalize on our presence in the area.”
The company signed a 5,690-square-foot lease at One Mercantile, which was formerly branded as the Unum Building. Vice President James Cozza, Executive Vice President Philip DeSimone, Principal Will Kelleher, and Vice President Drew Higgins of Worcester brokerage Kelleher & Sadowsky Associates represented both parties in the transaction.
One Mercantile’s property manager, Wellesley-based Franklin Realty Advisors, has been working with leasing agents Kelleher & Sadowsky to fill the space left behind by Unum in 2020 when it vacated the office building bearing its name, citing a transition to employees working from home, a decision which the company said was not COVID-related.
The office building is owned by Benderson Development of Florida.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly said Franklin Realty Advisors is the owner of One Mercentile. Franklin Realty is the property manager, and Benderson Development is the owner.
