The popular local food program “Phantom Gourmet” returned to the air this weekend, following a two-month hiatus and the sudden resignation of its former CEO, Dave Andelman, in June.
The showrunners appear to have quietly announced the show's return to WBZ/myTV38, a local CBS affiliate, in a Saturday Facebook post encouraging fans to tune into the program that morning. No additional details were offered.
The Andelman brothers, which also include Dan and Michael Andelman, have made names for themselves in New England as both behind "Phantom Gourmet" and as co-owners of the Mendon Twin Drive-In on Rt. 16 in Mendon.
Previously, the brothers announced in June they planned to expand their drive-in business to Marshfield, which marked a significant expansion at a time when most traditional movie theaters and other large gatherings are shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, after Dave shared widely-circulated and since removed Facebook posts taunting Black Lives Matter protests, the brothers and their companies faced harsh backlash, and Dave stepped down from his position as head of Phantom Gourmet, Inc.
At the same time, the Marshfield Fair, where the drive-in theater expansion was set to take place, announced it would end its relationship with both Andelman and Phantom Gourmet, effectively ending the previously announced expansion.
Dan has since stepped in as the company’s new CEO.
CBS first reported that "Phantom Gourmet" would begin airing again on Saturday. In an interview with the local affiliate, Dan told the network "Phantom Gourmet" was being revamped with a special eye toward inclusivity and diversity. The company has enlisted former Boston city councilor Tito Jackson to help overhaul the company’s culture, according to CBS.
