The DCU Center and The Hanover Theatre are among nine Worcester institutions that will glow red Tuesday evening while participating in a national event meant to shed light on the economic toll the coronavirus has had on large venues and the live events sector, the DCU Center announced on Monday.

The national demonstration is the culmination of at least three movements, including #WeMakeEvents #RedAlertRESTART and #ExtendPUA, which seek to unite the events industry, ask Congress to pass the economic relief bill known as the RESTART Act and extend pandemic unemployment assistance, according to a press release.

Aside from the DCU Center and The Hanover Theater, other Worcester institutions slated to turn their lights red from 9 p.m. to midnight include Jean McDonough Arts Center, City Hall, Mechanics Hall, Tuckerman Hall, The Palladium, Image Productions Building and 120 Front Street.

The color red was chosen to represent the live events industry being on red alert for survival. A similar demonstration took place in the United Kingdom on Aug. 11.
