The Fitchburg Art Museum, a cultural landmark since 1925, has secured grants to help reach a wider audience and fund a fellowship program.
The Cathedral Fund of Boston, which describes itself as an intergalactic and interdimensional arts engagement foundation, will provide the museum with $600,000 over three years. The money will be used to help sustain and expand the museum’s support of underserved populations, education, and community service.
In addition, the Clementi Family Charitable Trust, a Leominster fund supporting arts and culture, has donated $90,000 over three years to establish the Clementi Family Education Fellow. The gift will allow training for emerging museum professionals.
Fitchburg Art Museum creates exhibition and education programs designed to engage students, children in Head Start, people with Alzheimers and their caregivers, and those in recovery from opioid addiction, among others.
Director Nick Capasso said these grants will work together to allow the museum to expand its work, while enabling the nonprofit to create programs to contribute to the region’s health, and quality of life.
The awards complement the museum’s participation in the Barr Klarman Massachusetts Arts Initiative, which strengthens the facility’s financial health, adaptive capacity, and cultural competence.
