Expanded 'T' Service Starts Oct. 29

The MBTA is expanding commuter rail service to and from Worcester starting Monday, Oct. 29 after the commonwealth took control of the 45 miles of track between the city and Boston, part of its agreement with CSX Corp.

All six trains added to the schedule are extensions of current service between Boston and Framingham and will run during off-peak hours. Three weekday inbound trains to Boston's South Station will depart Union Station in Worcester at: 12:20 p.m. (Train 520), 2:10 p.m. (Train 522) and 9:30 p.m. (Train 538).

The three Worcester-bound trains will leave South Station at:

  • 10:30 a.m. and arrive in Worcester at 12:05 p.m. (Train 511);
  • 1:15 p.m., arriving in Worcester at 2:48 (Train 515);
  • 11:25 p.m., arriving in Worcester at 1:01 a.m. (Train 539).

There will be no changes to weekend service, according to a statement from Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Co. (MBCR), which operates the T's commuter rail service.

More information on train schedules is available on the web at www.MBCR.net and www.MBTA.com.

(CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story gave an incorrect starting date for the added service. It will begin Monday, Oct. 29.)
