The Montachusett Regional YMCA and the YMCA of Central Massachusetts are now one organization after they merged at the end of last month, the organizations announced Monday.
The combined organization has four branches – two in Worcester, one in Westborough and one in Fitchburg – that will serve close to 60 communities in the Greater Worcester and Northern Worcester County areas.
The merger came after nearly two years of analysis and planning, the organizations said in a statement.
Kathryn Zingg Hunter, president and CEO of the YMCA of Central Massachusetts, will serve as CEO of the merged organizations. It will be headquartered on Main Street in Worcester, the home of the YMCA of Central Massachusetts.
"We are thrilled and excited to move ahead as one, united entity," she said. "Because of the collaborative relationship that already existed and the potential to provide greater impact in both service areas, it made sense for our organizations to join together to more effectively address critical community needs."
