The science museum EcoTarium in Worcester announced on Tuesday it would reopen its indoor exhibits on July 9, expanding its public operations after first opening its outdoor exhibits on April 23.
The EcoTarium closed to visitors in September, in light of the coronavirus pandemic. It reopened its outdoor exhibits in April.
The July reopening will include two new exhibits, named Tree Houses and Design Zone, respectively.
Upon reopening, the EcoTarium will adhere to state mask mandates, which include relaxing outdoor mask requirements for vaccinated patrons. That said, all guests will be required to wear masks while visiting certain animal exhibits where wildlife are susceptible to COVID-19, per the announcement. Those animals include North American river otters, red foxes and mountain lions.
Indoor mask requirements will follow CDC guidance, with the museum noting the majority of its guests are under the age of 12 and not able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at this time.
On May 14, the EcoTarium announced its CEO, Lucy Hale, would step down this coming Friday. The museum board has started a national search for her replacement.
