Economic Indicators: Edward J. Wilson, Wilson Language Training

Who are your customers?

Our customers are primarily teachers who work in schools across the United States. Our clients range from private clinics to large urban districts. We are building our international presence with continued interest from educators in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

How do you expect to close out 2010 in terms of revenues?

We are expecting to end the year slightly ahead of 2009 sales by 5 percent. We actually added staff this year and invested in technology, so before tax profits we will be down about 15 percent.

What are your projections for 2011?

We are projecting growth of 10 to 20 percent as strong demand for our services is already booked through June 2011. Our forecast for educational materials is conservatively pegged at plus 5 percent.

Are you planning to do anything different in 2011 to help drive revenues?

Our client service and field staff will have access to better information and communication through integrated scheduling systems which should allow us to serve everyone effectively.

How did the recession impact your business?

The primary effect has been reluctance to forecast aggressively and this resulted in some inefficiency and missed opportunities. We have adapted to grow against all the bad news.

How are you feeling about 2011?

I am cautiously optimistic and very grateful that the vast majority of people understand the importance of investing in quality educational products and services.
