Durable goods orders up 5.9 percent

New orders for durable goods made in the U.S. increased by 5.9 percent in July, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. The increase in orders for things like airplanes, automobiles, computers and steel was the fifth increase in the last six months, the department said, and the $230.7 billion in orders to U.S. companies in July is the highest level since 1992.
