The nonprofit Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District renewed its mandate for five years, beginning on July 1.
The organization undertakes projects to improve and maintain the appearance and safety of downtown Worcester on behalf of local businesses and property owners.
The BID is funded primarily by mandatory assessments paid by all participating property owners, which will now continue for at least five more years. The nonprofit has also raised $550,000 over the past three years in grant’s sponsorships and assistance, according to a Sept. 29 press release from the BID.
“During our first five years, the BID has established programs and led initiatives that have helped fuel the momentum Downtown,” Downtown BID Executive Director Evelyn Darling said at a Sept. 27 meeting, according to the press release. “Now, with these key programs solidly in place, we have an opportunity to ensure the success and growth of Downtown over the next five years and beyond. With significant planned development, more residential units, and new businesses opening over the next five years, this is an exciting time for our neighborhood.”
