Direct Air, the lone commercial service provider at Worcester Regional Airport, announced expanded service today from Worcester to the Bahamas and Puerto Rico.
Direct Air will begin serving two nonstop flights a week to Nassau, Bahamas and San Juan, Puerto Rico beginning Nov. 17.
Direct Air made the announcement during a press conference at the airport, which included company President Ed Warneck, plus state and local officials.
Direct Air, which is headquartered in South Carolina, already offers service from Worcester to Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Ft. Meyers, Fl.; Orlando, Fl., and West Palm Beach, Fl.
The company flies out of 18 markets around the East Coast including regional airports in New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Florida and Pennsylvania.
Last June state and local officials brokered a deal to transfer ownership of the airport from the city of Worcester over to the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport).
