Hanscom Federal Credit Union will be expanding its headquarters into Littleton as the credit union with more than $1 billion in assets sets its sights westward.
“We have so many members, and we are growing our membership over into Worcester County, so it made sense to grow in that direction,” said MaryJo Kurtz, the organization’s spokeswoman.
The credit union has 2,000 of its 66,000 members in Worcester County. The move made sense because of the location near Worcester County, Kurtz said, but the credit union will continue to be rooted in its existing region as well.
The credit union will move to a new location at 25 Porter Road in the first quarter, Kurtz said. The company purchased that location in April for $3.3 million according to Massachusetts land records.
The credit union will occupy half of the 67,000 square-foot building and open a new branch at the location along with preliminary plans to bring over the organization's call center, member relations and lending operations. Final job numbers for the location have not been released, but will be substantial, said Kurtz.
The credit union will maintain its headquarters at the Hanscom Airforce Base in Bedford, although a secondary headquarters location in Lexington will be closed. The credit union currently has 17 branches with plans for another in the Boston area to open before the Littleton branch. The organization has $1.1 billion in assets.
