Two Connecticut companies, owned by the same parent company, say they will pay large fines to the federal Environmental Protection Agency for hazardous waste violations.
The EPA has reached a settlement with the companies in Meriden and Bridgeport, for alleged violations of hazardous waste laws in 2003.
Federal officials have fined United Oil Recovery Inc. of Meriden $119,392 for unacceptable waste and Bridgeport United Recycling $205,798 for alleged violations.
Officials say the violations were discovered during an inspection at the Bridgeport plant that showed a faulty control device used to reduce organic air emissions.
The companies had disputed the allegations.
