Bogus checks used to steal from Meriden Housing Authority

Officials of the Meriden Housing Authority say somebody has been using counterfeit checks to steal thousands of dollars from the housing authority.

Executive Director Andre Trudelle says the checks were expertly made imitations with an account number lifted from real housing authority checks used to pay landlords.

He says the checks even had the Bank of America logo printed on them, and were accepted by Bank of America employees.

Trudelle says he can't give a specific amount stolen, but that it's in the thousands of dollars.

Trudelle says Bank of America informed him of the theft a week and a half ago.
