A report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on Tuesday showed that employee compensation in the metropolitan area that includes Boston and Worcester grew 2.3 percent in the 12-month period ending in December 2016, while wages and salaries, which account for much of that cost, grew 2.9 percent.
Those growth rates exceed national growth in total compensation (2.2 percent) and wages and salaries (2.3 percent), BLS said in a statement Tuesday.
The Boston metropolitan area measured by BLS, which is comprised of several Massachusetts counties including Worcester and counties of Southern New Hampshire, is one of 15 for which local compensation data is available. Of those 15, the Boston area was one of 10 that had compensation growth and wage and salary growth exceeding the U.S. average, BLS said.
