Natick machine vision sensor company Cognex Corp. announced it will cut 60 jobs and close a Georgia facility.
The job cuts represent about 7 percent of the company’s headcount.
Cognex said the move is necessary to allow the company to remain profitable, given the “bleak economic outlook.”
In the immediate future, the company said the cuts will cost it $700,000 in the fourth quarter of this year and another $1.7 million during the first half of 2009. After that, however, it said the cuts should save $6 million a year starting in 2010.
Cognex makes vision sensors and systems used for quality control in manufacturing.
