1. UMass Medical School announces ALS breakthrough
Researchers at UMass Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital have announced a major breakthrough in ALS research: a therapy that suppresses a harmful gene that causes the nervous system disease.
2. Worcester County reports first coronavirus case
The number of confirmed or presumptive coronavirus cases in Massachusetts has soared to 41, the state Department of Public Health said Monday, March 9, including the first in Worcester County.

5. Staples sells Framingham headquarters for $165M
Framingham office retailer Staples has sold its longtime headquarters for $165 million to a New York firm specializing in sale-leaseback deals, according to the Middlesex County Registry of Deeds.
6. Greater Worcester projected to be among worst nationally for coronavirus hospital bed shortag
Greater Worcester is projected to have among the worst shortfalls in the number of available hospital beds in the country, virtually no matter how hard the coronavirus pandemic hits.
7. Low-income residents marked for retroactive unemployment benefits
With the state's unemployment rate still hovering close to 10 percent, Gov. Charlie Baker made quick work Monday, Oct. 26 of new legislation that will allow thousands of workers to collect $1,800 in additional unemployment benefits, signing the bill just hours after it landed on his desk.
8. Construction to begin at $45M Edgemere revitalization
After lying vacant two decades, construction is expected to start this summer on a $45-million mixed-use project at the abandoned Edgemere Drive-In on Route 20 in Shrewsbury.

10. At 158, Worcester County has largest number of confirmed coronavirus cases in one day
Another 158 coronavirus cases were reported in Worcester County on Friday, April 3, along with the county's 13th death.
